🚖 Bengaluru Autorickshaw Fare Hike 2025 – New Rates from August 1

Bengaluru commuters, brace yourselves for higher auto fares! Starting August 1, 2025, autorickshaw rides in the city will cost more as the Karnataka government revises fares after nearly 4 years.

The move aims to balance driver income with rising fuel, maintenance, and inflation costs. The last fare update was way back in November 2021.

📝 Why This Sudden Hike?

  • Auto unions pushed for higher rates (₹40 base + ₹20/km), citing fuel and maintenance costs.

  • Government approved a 20% moderate hike to balance commuter affordability and driver earnings.

  • First revision in 4 years, making it long overdue.

⚠️ Important Things Every Commuter Must Know

Check the Meter

  • All autos must update their meters by October 31, 2025.

  • Look for the government-approved seal.

Fare Chart Must Be Displayed

  • Every auto should have the latest fare chart inside.

Night Travel Costs More

  • 10 pm – 5 am: Be ready to pay 1.5× the fare.

Waiting Charges Apply

  • First 5 min free, then ₹10 for every 15 minutes.

Report Overcharging

  • Complain via the Transport Department helpline or official apps if drivers overcharge.

🏙️ Impact on Commuters

  • Daily expenses will rise slightly.

  • Example: A 10 km daytime ride that earlier cost ~₹150 will now cost ~₹180.

  • Night-time rides will be significantly costlier due to the 1.5× surcharge.

👥 Public Reactions

While many commuters express frustration over rising costs, some believe it’s fair as drivers face increasing fuel and maintenance prices. Commuter groups demand strict enforcement of meter calibration to stop overcharging.
