🌿 Infrastructure & Environment: Bengaluru’s 2-Crore Sapling ‘Green Ring’ Project

1. The Vision: A 50-KM Ecological Belt

The Karnataka State Legal Services Authority (KSLSA) and the Dhare Foundation have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to create a massive "Green Ring" around Bengaluru. The initiative involves planting two crore (20 million) saplings within a 50-km radius of the Vidhana Soudha.

2. Strategic Zonal Breakdown

The project is divided into three distinct ecological zones to ensure scientific urban planning:

  • Urban Core (0–10 km): 20 lakh saplings will be planted in parks, schools, and roadside vacant lands using high-density methods like the Miyawaki technique.

  • Peri-Urban Belt (10–30 km): 80 lakh saplings aimed at creating a buffer zone between the city and rural areas.

  • Rural-Forest Zone (30–50 km): 1 crore saplings focused on restoring biodiversity and native forest cover.

3. Collaborative Execution & Financing

  • Role of KSLSA: Acting as a facilitator, the KSLSA will identify government lands and coordinate with the State Forest Department for sapling logistics.

  • Role of Dhare Foundation: The foundation will manage the project’s financing through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds and oversee the long-term maintenance.

  • Holistic Restoration: Beyond tree planting, the mission includes the rejuvenation of 45,000 lakes across Karnataka through desilting and feeder channel restoration.
